Intent
At Lyndon Green Infant School we develop children’s fascination and curiosity by equipping our children with skills to develop their computational thinking and creativity to understand the world. The progression of skills throughout school allows children to build on prior knowledge and allows, as children progress through the curriculum, for them to be able to express themselves in many different media using technology.
We know that children are accessing technology at an ever younger age, and so we believe that it is our responsibility to ensure that every child in our school begins their computing education from their very first day. We want our children to understand technology, not just use it, and so we to provide a curriculum which embeds a deep understanding of all three of the core strands of computing (information technology, digital literacy, and computer science). We inspire children to think about how their computational skills can be used in the real world. For example, programming is how the games and software children use are made. Our children leave Lyndon Green being digitally literate by being able to use, express themselves and develop their ideas through information and communication technology. We ensure that the children have begun developing a skill set which would be suitable for employment in later life.
Internet and online safety play an important role within our computing curriculum. We actively engage the children in developing their understanding of how to use the internet safely. We aim to stimulate children’s curiosity but ensure that they are equipped to be safe explorers and users of the online world. We believe children need to be aware of the world around them and be able to make smart decisions. Through our E-safety sessions we encouraged children to questions and be aware of aspects of the online world that may not always be actively thinking about.
