Reception and Year 2-3 Admissions- September2025

Online admissions opens on 1 October 2025 for Reception and Year 2-3 (Infant to Junior) admissions in September 2025.  Applications can be made online through the Birmingham City Council website until the final deadline of 15 January 2025.

  • It is really important that you apply on time. If you apply late, you are less likely to get offered a place at any of your preferred schools. Applications received after the 15 January 2025 will be classed as late applications and will not be processed until after the offer of places on 16 April 2025.
  • If you applied online and provided an email address, they will email you on 16 April 2025 to tell you which school your child has been offered. They cannot guarantee the exact time you will receive your email, as this will depend on your service provider. However, they expect you to receive your offer email by 4pm on Tuesday 16 April 2025.
  • They will also send you a formal offer letter that will be posted by first class post on Wednesday 16 April 2025. You must allow at least three working days for your letter to arrive.

Please can you help raise awareness of the process as parents who apply late are less likely to be offered one of their preferred schools.  All the information parents need to support with making their preferences is available on our website. More advice and support is also available from Children’s Services on 0121 303 1888.

Children with an Education Health and Care Plan

Any child with an Education Health and Care Plan/statement of special educational needs is required to be admitted to the school that is named in the statement. This gives such children overall priority for admission to the named school. This is not an oversubscription criterion.

Oversubscription Criteria

1. Looked after or previously looked after children.

2. Siblings; brother or sister who will still be in attendance (not Nursery) in September 2025 at Lyndon Green Infant or Lyndon Green Junior School.

3. Distance (children who live nearest the school measured in a straight line).

Distances are calculated on the basis of a straight line measurement between the applicant’s home address and the main entrance of the school building.

Important

School Admissions and Fair Access Service make every effort to ensure that the information contained in the 'Primary Admissions Arrangements' for each school is up to date and correct. However, for a copy of the school's full and most recent admissions policy and oversubscription criteria, please feel free to visit: Admissions Arrangements Community Schools

In-year school admissions

Pupils usually start school at the start of the school year in September. Sometimes your child will need to start or change school after this because:

  • You move house, either within or into Birmingham.
  • You want your child to change schools for other reasons.

If you have moved house you will need to fill in an Application for a Change of School In-Year form and take it to your preferred school with proof of address.

If you want to apply for a place outside of Birmingham you should contact the local authority (Council) for that area.

The school appeals process

There is advice available for parent and carers regarding the appeals process from the Department for Education. View the guidance for appeals.

View the School Admission Appeals Code 2022

The Code allows appeal hearings to be held remotely by video conference. All appeals take place via video link using Microsoft Teams, accessible from a mobile telephone, tablet, laptop or any device that can access the internet via an internet browser.

Once your submitted appeal has been processed and scheduled, and at least 10 days prior to the appeal hearing, you will receive an email from the School Appeals Team (part of the Council’s Legal & Governance Department) informing you of the date and time of the appeal. Included in this email will be a copy of the school statement and guidance on the appeals process. It is important that you read this information prior to your appeal hearing.
