FOLGIS began in January 2008 when a group of parents joined together to create an organisation which provided support for our school.
One of our aims is to promote the partnership between home and school, helping with events such as sports day and Sports relief events, and gardening! Many of our parents help in the library and with Maths games, or help counting Tesco and Sainsbury’s vouchers.
Raising funds for the outdoor environment has been our target for the previous four years. We have held events such as the school disco, Christmas Fayres and quiz nights to fund playground markings, playhouses and seating areas and gazebos for forest school. Our biggest purchase was half of the Lyndon Green Schools mini bus!! For the foreseeable future, we have undertaken a new project, new books for the library!
Our proudest achievement has to be this years partnership with a group of pupils in school called the Researchers. These children worked hard at encouraging others to walk to school and approached us to help them raise funds to purchase scooter storage. These children helped at the Christmas Fayre and planned their own fundraising sponsored event, raising enough money to purchase our pods! Look our for the mushroom shapes storage on each playground.
The name, Friends of Lyndon Green Infant School, indicates that all are members: parents, staff, carers, grandparents. We all have the same aims, to promote fun in the school environment, encourage parental involvement and to be a friend to our school. We hope you will join us in supporting Lyndon Green Infant School.
Our annual Macmillan coffee morning is held during September. With donations of home baked cakes and goodies, we raise donations for this worthy cause. Open to all parents and carers, it is a chance for a coffee and chat. In 2012 we raised a fantastic £310.48!
FOLGIS helped celebrate the school jubilee by holding a free family picnic. With performances from Punch and Judy, a penalty shoot out, free ice cream and family races, a fun filled day was had by all. Even the Great British weather did not stop us!
Another of our fund raising events is our car boot sale. Held on school premises, it is chance to sell your unwanted goods, or to grab a bargain! We also have our face painters in attendance, refreshments available and several activities for the children to enjoy.
Quiz night - For the adults only! Our resident quiz master never fails to provide an entertaining evening full of fact and trivia for parents and school staff alike.
Scooter pods – 2011 saw the birth of the FOLGIS and researcher partnership where the children take a lead in fundraising. The children in the researchers group had investigated trends in travelling to school and identified the need for storage for scooter. Pancake day was the ideal time for our flip! Pancakes went flying and egg and spoon races were held. The children loved being involved and counting their friends achievements. The whole school raised the money to purchase our scooter pods, located in the two school playgrounds. They are frequently used and let our child scoot to school and store their scooters ready for hometime!
In addition to the scooter pods, this year we have financed the purchase of many items. The first was chosen by the children, listed upon a long line of requests! Their hand made playhouse was installed in the top playground and painted in school colours.
